psycho-neuro-immune connection

What is psycho-neuro-immunology?

Psychoneuroimmunology (PNI) is a interdisciplinary approach that involves the relationship between multiple systems. These systems include the central nervous system, peripheral nervous systems, autonomic nervous system, the endocrine system, the immune system and their relationship with psychological processes.

With tools rooted in this approach we are able to see the direct impact neurotransmitters, hormones, bio-chemical interactions and neuropeptides have on regulating immune cells, which in turn are capable of communicating with nervous tissue through the secretion of a wide variety of cytokines.

This integrative approach demonstrates the connection between stored trauma in the body, chronic states of stress, depression, anxiety, and how they have a direct relationship with immune system function and illness. Through this process we explore each individual system, as well as the subconscious, the varying levels of conscious states in between, suppressed trauma, bodily states to recognize the underlying causes of dysfunction allowing the systems to self regulate and operate optimally.
